How to use a Moka pot
The moka pot is found in almost every Italian home - typically in several sizes 1, 3, 6 and even 12 cups.
One of the best ways to use a moka pot is:
- Fill the base with clean cold or hot water - up to the safety valve ( if filled beyond the valve it will leak on the hob).
- Fill the steel funnel up to the top - slighted mounded so it convex, with preground coffee.
- No need to tamp the coffee, if you fill the funnel - the act of screwing the top acts like a tamper.
- Put on gas or electrical hob until you start to hear coffee percolate.
- Remove from heat and pour immediately when it has reached the desirable quantity.
Tips:
- For espresso type of coffee only let coffee reach 1/3 full.
- For long strong coffee, coffee can reach 2/3 full.
- If using 100% arabica coffee - then use boiling water to fill the base - this prevents the coffee from getting burned.
- Dont keep opening the lid as it can volcano when it starts to bubble.
